A common misconception is that any form of financial incentive for referring a client is unethical. While paying for a simple referral is considered fee-splitting and is not permitted under APA Ethics Code 6.07, compensating professionals for consultative services that directly contribute to client care is both ethical and compliant.
Our Model: Compensation for Expert Consultation, Not Referral Fees
When a psychologist or other professional evaluator refers a student to our MindCrafting program, they are not simply sending a referral—they are actively contributing their expertise to help design an individualized program tailored to the student’s needs. This collaboration ensures the MindCrafting program aligns with the specific cognitive, academic, or executive functioning goals identified in the evaluator’s assessment.
Because these professionals provide expert consultation as part of the student’s program development, they are ethically compensated for their direct services—not for the referral itself.
APA Ethics Code 6.07 – Referrals and Fees
The American Psychological Association (APA) Ethics Code (Standard 6.07: Referrals and Fees) states:
"When psychologists pay, receive payment from, or divide fees with another professional, other than in an employer-employee relationship, the payment to each is based on the services provided (e.g., consultation, administrative support, or clinical services) and is not based on the referral itself."
Our program follows this ethical principle by ensuring that:
Key Ethical Distinctions
Factor | Ethical Consultative Compensation (Compliant with APA Ethics Code 6.07) |
---|---|
Basis of Payment | Paid for expert consultative services that shape the student’s individualized MindCrafting program. |
Ethical Integrity | Ensures compensation is based on genuine professional services rendered. |
Compliance with APA | Aligns with Ethics Code 6.07 (service-based compensation). |
Role of the Professional | Actively collaborates to tailor the student’s educational and cognitive training plan. |
By structuring our Affiliate Program around ethical, service-based compensation, we ensure professionals can confidently engage in meaningful collaboration without ethical concerns. This model not only supports student success but also upholds professional integrity and APA ethical standards.
When you refer clients to us, they gain access to complimentary educational services that we provide on your behalf. This not only enhances the value you offer your clients but also helps attract more clients to your practice, all without requiring extra work from you.
We look for professionals with expertise in working with children with learning differences, a passion for helping families, and a commitment to aligning with our mission. Licensed psychologists can also qualify for Phase 2 if they have experience in conducting comprehensive psychoeducational assessments.
Phase 1: Time commitment is flexible, with up to four hours of consultative support per referred client over a 36-month period.
Phase 2: Time required depends on the number of evaluations you conduct, with specific timelines for deliverables like the Scores Review and final report.
